Meltdown Background (hey that rhymes)

In case you are hungy for more information on the recent server meltdown, you can find some background at the mailing list archives.
My guess is that it is leaking memory somewhere. It’d be *very* good to find that leak (if it exist) before we put it up again, because otherwise we’ll crash again, and we’ll crash as badly.
There’s not much more discussion there but it does explain why everything is still down.
UPDATE: I’ve been told by our good devs over @ the IRC channel that the above post is inaccurate. Dave has given me some more info for all you:
- The server ran out of memory (with speculation that it was due to memory leaks in wesnothd, but see my comments on that in a reply I wrote);
- This apparently caused filesystem corruption when the machine was shut down;
- The Wesnoth developers do not have access to the box; the hosting service we are using is trying to recover for us;
- We had already been looking for new hosting anyhow, and are hoping to migrate …
It is now obvious that it’s because our capable hackers can’t ssh to the box and fix the thing that it’s taking a while.
Patience is advised
