Over at the Linux journal there is a new video review of The Battle for Wesnoth.
The video shows some aspects of the game like the multi player server and the add-on server, as well as going a short introduction of the gameplay (Movement radius etc)
Unfortunately, there were a few things that I think could have been done better.
- The version used seemed to be the last stable version (1.2.8) which is a bit obsolete by now. This is a minor point since the reviewer (Shawn) did not go into parts where this difference will show.
- There was barely any gameplay shown. Other than a short defeat clip, the reviewer mostly left his units at the starting position of the South Guard campaign while he talked, so the viewer did not really get to see the actual gameplay.
- The game was compared to Civilization which is not a good comparison. Civilization is a totally different kind of TBS strategy than Wesnoth. Imho a much more appropriate comparison would be Heroes of Might and Magic or Age of Wonders which are both medieval and use a similar style of play
In general, it was not a bad attempt but I believe it could have been better done. He did insert some humor into the video which was a good addition.
